  1. Composition is how you organize or relay the message you are trying to send out. Composition most commonly depends on the target market, and can also but used to effectively communicate an 'agency' that an author is trying to support or rip apart. For example, (no offense Russ) the composition of this blog question was ineffective. Although the question may have been simply understood by college professors, not many college freshmen would understand that agency is synonymous with purpose.

  2. The purpose of composition is to make sure paper sound correct and the paper is neat. Also composition is to translate words to meaning and make people think and want to change an idea. A book that i have recently read was a Sarah Dessen book. Her books make a person think about thier life and maybe want to change their own life based on her ideas. I think that her books are life changing in one way or the other and help people in one way or another. I think text can have many different views and have different effects on different people. A text can be persuasive by the words that are used and the audience the text draws in. I think using strong words make a text persuasive.

  3. The purpose (agency) of the novel Nickel And Dimed was to inform Americans of all backgrounds of the conditions of low wage workers after the welfare reform in the late 90s. It was effectively put into a composition containing a social experiment in which the author attempted to live as a minimum wage worker in various places throughout America. This text lead to understanding what many did not understand about our "working poor". This awareness lead to a change in my life, especially the way I tip at restaurants. Once i read the text, i realized how difficult waiter and waitresses lives were and started tipping a lot more. The ways that it was particularly persuasive were it playing on pathos and ethos by describing the suffering of many of our fellow Americans. In conclusion, i recommend that all people read this text and that everyone start tipping at least 25%

  4. Question 1: The purpose behind a composition can be to persuade, to inform, or to even inspire. I had no idea that agency meant purpose. I watched Saving Private Ryan maybe three times in 24 hours. The agency behind that movie was to show the brotherhood of the military and to inform about the storming the Omaha beaches during World War II.
Question 2: Sometimes authors write to inspire or to inform. When they do, some people like to go out and change themselves for the better. I can't really say any book or movie has changed my life for the better. I can proudly say that several movies fulfilled my comic relief. Laughing, some say, is the best medicine. Rolling on the floor, laughing my ass off, can cure just about any disease in my book.
Question 3: Texts or movies can really hit "home" with some people. Some ways that a text can be particularly persuasive is if it applies to one's ethos, pathos, or even logos. Some "texts" that I can cite that are good examples of agency or social/ political change are many books that are in the Library of Congress. More political or history books or movies show social/ political change than other books or movies.

  5. The way authors manipulate their text and media can easily be inspire an audience into action. The film "Super Size Me"is an effective composition because the audience understood the exact message the producer was trying to convey. If all the information and examples were put into a book, I feel that the composition would be half as effective as it was as a film. Without the images, reactions, and commentary the idea behind "Super Size Me" could easily be lost. Mmm Fries.

  6. Question 1: agency means purpose!!! I had no idea!!! so, the agency behind the movie, Shawshank Redemption was to let the audience know that perseverance can get you anywhere. The way Andy Dufresne kept his cool, and remained patient for 20 years, to reach his goal of escaping, spoke volumes to me. It really made me think about what it mean to persevere. It is a powerful film!
Question 2:continuing with the perseverance topic, I have read a few articles in Sports Illustrated that cover injuries in sports and the player who had to overcome their ailment. Personally, these have helped me recognize the importance of not giving up on something that you want to do.
Question 3: When a text is able to relate to the reader, or audience it has the potential to be persuasive. If a text talks about school policies that need change and how they affect the reader, it can speak volumes to them. The essay People like us persuaded me to try and diversify my life. There is certainly room to grow and understand others, and surround myself with a crowd that isn't so similar to myslef.

  7. 1. A purpose behind a composition, in my opinion, is an opinion and a feeling that causes appreciation and changes outlooks. You translate it into words with fine and minor but very imaginative details.
    2. Composition leads to action because it'll spark an idea in someone's brain and they'll take action. Movies that inspire me are the typical athlete movies. I love Remember the Titans.
    3. A text or composition can be persuasive by sometimes dealing with controversial issues and relaying them to people in a way that will help them to understand better.

  8. Question One: The purpose behind a composition is to attract people from a particular audience and to have an impact on those people in some form. The composer could just be trying to make someone laugh, or to persuade, or instruct someone into doing something.

Question Two: Composition leads you to take action because the composers can be very persuasive and believable and they can make you want to take action and do whatever it was they were writing, singing, or acting, etc. about.

Question Three: For example, in the composition Tuesdays With Morrie, it led me to take action in my own life. The novel taught me to cherish my live and live everyday to the fullest. I know that is cliche, but it's true. I learned to value my life and to not take anything for granted. I started treating my family and friends with more respect, and I even started to treat myself with better respect. I stopped bringing myself down whenever I made a mistake, whether it was on the softball field, or just during school. This novel helped me realize that there are more tragic things happening in this world that I should be worrying about. I recommend this novel to everyone! Especially if you are looking to view your life in a different way or just want to become a better person.

  9. 1.The purpose of composition is combining multiple parts into one. By combining our thoughts or ideas into one part, we create a composition. This can be done in media, books, songs, etc.
2.Composition can lead to action by combining all your ideas; it creates one strong message. Composition is like a picture, the pieces along might not be strong or make sense but together as a whole it creates a strong message. Susan Casey’s essay really inspired me to take action in my life. Her statics about plastics uses and recycling really opened my eyes to that fact that we consuming extreme amounts of plastic.
3.I believe that any texts that contain quotes or statistics are very persuasive. Quotes are poetic and statistics are really eye openers. Casey’s essay is perfect example of a social and political change that really needs to be addressed.

  10. Question #1:
The agency of a composition is basically the meaning and or purpose. You effectively translate the agency into words by gathering your thoughts about the composition, and use common language to express your knowledge and understanding of the composition.

    Question #2:
Composition may lead to action when the viewer is inspired by the particular composition. The bible has defiantly inspired me to take action in my life. The text itself has influenced my ethics and morals, as well as my family's appreciation for the bible. Since they take it into such a strong consideration, it convinced me as well to do the same.

    Question #3:
Many texts can be particularly persuasive in any form of advertising. Once you take in the placement, length, and audience of a text, it can send a huge message.

  11. 1. A purpose behind a composition can come from anything. An intense life experience could be the agency behind a composition. To effectively translate that agency into words a person must fully express their feelings onto paper, with no regret.

    2. Composition leads to action when the writing is inspiration for a person. My high school basketball coach gave the team an article about preparation and doing "the small things." It inspired me to pay more attention to the little things that would make me a better basketball player.

    3. A text can be persuasive if the author uses valid examples to support his or her idea. A text can also be persuasive if the details pertain to my life or a situation that I am involved in. Susan Casey’s essay was a good example of social/political change.

  13. Yeah i agree with just about everyone on this one, its the way a text can inspire ppl to act on issues or ideas... and honestly, like Eli's coach gave them an article, one of my coach's did the same thing but rather then an article he wrote the words on the board in our locker room... telling us to do the little things right and the big things will just happen

  14. texts can be very influental and can deffinately sway one's thoughts on a particaulr idea or issue. Many movies and books are made or written to sway people. Although, i was not particularly influenced by the Obama campaign many people say that the "Change" statement seemed to be enough to vote in his favor and the can really be said for all advertisements .... beer ads try to get people to think they are cool, or good-looking if they purchase and drink their product same can be said for the once upon a time smoking comm. all businesses are subject to tech. in trying to get people to buy their products or ideas... thats that..

  15. The purpose of a composition is to read someones outlook on a certain topic. The reader my change their look on the situation or be open to new ideas. It is important to not only read other peoples compositions, but to share your own ideas in a composition. Some compositions can changes peoples lives and make them realize something they have never thought of before. This may cause more people to come together and take action towards the topic. Compositions about recycling make me take action towards recycling.Texts can be persuasive by relating to something in your life. They can get to your emotions and make you have empathy towards the subject. Then they persuade you to act or think a certain way

  16. In general, we take our purpose, or "agency" and implement it into our work by looking at it from the audience's perspective. When writing your composition, you want to do so in a manner that will create a relationship with your targeted audience, as well as organize it in a simple, logical manner. All writing should be based around a structure (outline) with supporting details working towards the goal of the work.

A composition that has affected my life is "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". It successfully bridged the gap between the author and myself by providing background information about him that made me view him as another person rather than some super-rich author and entrepreneur. He then reflected on his adolescence and told me his father molded him into the man he is today. He went through his life explaining WHY he is where he is today, and it all made a lot of sense. I think that if you break down the work and explain everything in a way that the audience can appreciate, you will find that your goal of persuasion will come easily. Empathy (making the audience relate to the author or subject) will strengthen your persuation.

  17. The "agency” behind a text can be to inform, to persuade, or both. We convey this by formulating main points, ideas and topics and organizing it all in a sensible way.

Compositions can absolutely change people’s views, ideas, habits, etc, if they are well written and have good supporting statements. I would say compisitions like "Our Oceans are Turning to Plastic, Are We?" affect me to change because they aware me of current problems we have to deal with that can adversely affect our lives and future generations to come.
